Ever since I was in my early twenties I was diagnosed with Degenerative Disk Disease (DDD) and always had trouble getting comfortable enough to get a restful night sleep. I'd wake up with pain in my lower back. That was until I got my memory foam mattress topper and all my pressure points were supported. Pressure points are areas of your body that press the hardest into your bed. If you like to sleep on your back like me, your lower back bears most of the weight of your body. With the memory foam mattress topper your body weight is evenly distributed. This allows you to get a restful night sleep without aches, pains, numbness or poor circulation.
A memory foam mattress topper cover comes in the standard three sizes; twin, queen and king, but also varies in thickness; 2, 3 or 4 inches. The cost can run as little as .00 and as high as 0.00 depending on the size and the thickness you require.

NASA developed the memory foam back in the 1970's for the astronaut's flight chair to help with their pressure point caused by the G-forces during lift off. Since they found it worked so well, hospital and other medical facilities used it for their patient's bed and not long after that it was sold to the public. The memory foam mattress topper is made of visco-elastic layers the same space age material that allows equal weight absorption no matter how much a person weighs.
There are also two types of memory foam mattress covers. One is Novaform where the foam is poured in liquid form into trays and allowed to cool. Novaform can reduce the level of movement or depression of the mattress topper to that area. Hence, the commercial on TV where a person will jump on the bed and not tip over a glass of red wine. Marketing for this feature made memory foam a popular choice for most consumers. The older memory foam mattress toppers have a problem with dispersing body heat. With modern technology visco-elastic will move body heat away by increasing the airflow. They are also machine washable and come with a warranty.
Another benefit to a memory foam mattress topper, it doesn't provide an area of high humidity nor way for dust mites to burrow inside the pad and make a home for themselves. You know those tiny bugs that live off of your dead skin cells. Thus eliminating allergies, respiratory problems and even asthma attacks these mites may cause. Not to think that you would sleep better knowing your bug free!
Sleep Aid is a competitive manufacturer to Novaform. They believe that foam poured in liquid form causes it to become denser from the top to the bottom. A new technique has ensured a uniform density though out its memory foam by producing a vacuum chamber. Because of Novaform's density and chemical makeup it still can produce hot spots during the night. Sleep Aid's HRC System or Heat Reduction Channels has a finishing process that cuts deep ventilation grooves into the surface of the pad therefore, allowing air to enter and circulate keeping you cooler. Another way to sleep more comfortable is to have your bedroom temperature no higher than 65 degrees.
I purchased mine in 2005 and it was the best purchase I made all year. I only wish I would have bought one sooner. I no longer suffer from back pain or stiffness in the morning. At night, I feel warm and comfortable like I am in a cocoon. One of the biggest complaints of the memory foam topper is it does absorb body heat, so I keep my bedroom at a much lower temperature and use a ceiling fan to keep the air circulated.
When you first get your memory foam mattress topper it will have a chemical smell for a short period of time. No matter what brand you buy all of them have an odor. When you purchase one check on the length a lot of them are cut 1-2" short. This will allow your sheets to fit better.
To reiterate a memory foam mattress topper does not provide an environment for dust mites or bed bugs, so it will highly benefit allergy sufferers. I would highly recommend this for anyone who is on bed rest, in the hospital, those that suffer from joint pain or anyone that wants to have a great night sleep. I cannot imagine not having mine. In fact, I am going to purchase one for my grandchildren. Maybe they wouldn't get up during the night and crawl into their parent's bed if they had a memory foam mattress topper of their own. What do you think?
